Hotels need halal certs to hold Ramadan buffet

SHAH ALAM- Hotel operators are told not to use the ‘Ramadan buffet’ phrase unless it is halal certified, said State Exco for Islamic Religious Affairs, Consumerism and Halal Industry, Mohd Zawawi Ahmad Mughni.

He said so far 31 hotels in the state are halal certificied.

Under Trade Descriptions (definition of halal) Order 2011, he said Ramadan buffet and it cannot be arbitrarily used.

"It is a violation of law and action can be taken," he told Sinar Harian on Monday.

He urged those who plan to offer buffet during the fasting month to apply for the certification immediately. Ramadan falls in April.
