KOTA KINABALU - A former state government department director has been arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for allegedly soliciting and accepting bribes of more than RM1.2 million.
According to a source, the man in his 50s was arrested while testifying at the Kota Kinabalu MACC Office, here, at about 10am on Wednesday.
It is understood that the suspect received bribes from two companies to defer a service project in 2017 and 2018.
Meanwhile, Sabah MACC director Datuk S Karunanithy confirmed the arrest, saying it was being investigated under Section 17 (a) of the MACC Act 2009.
"The suspect is expected to be charged in the Kota Kinabalu Sessions Court in the near future," he said when contacted.
