KUALA LUMPUR - De facto Law Minister Wan Junaidi Wan Tuanku Jaafar says Putrajaya does not recognise claims and proceedings by the Court of Arbitration in Paris on claims by descendants of Sulu Sultan.

He said this at the Dewan Rakyat today during the Minister's Question Time (MQT).

“The legitimacy of Sultan of Sulu’s supposed descendants’ and identities cannot be determined.

“Due to that, the government will not recognise any claims put forth,” he told the Sitting.

He said the claims do not have any commercial value in nature and "it cannot be subjected to any arbitration in the first place."

“All actions leading up to Spanish arbitrator Dr Gonzalo Stampa’s final award have been considered null and void in the eyes of the law on the grounds that he is not an arbitrator in the purported proceedings,” Wan Junaidi added.

He then reiterated that Malaysia had always upheld and never waived its sovereign immunity as a sovereign state.
