KUALA LUMPUR - Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob has reminded all parties not to “take over” the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al Mustafa Billah Shah power on the issue of dissolving Parliament to enable the 15th General Election (GE15) to be held.

He said the date of the Parliament dissolution must be discussed with the King prior.

Ismail said this during a press conference at the Umno Annual General Assembly 2022 at the World Trade Centre today.

Fresh from Umno’s landslide win in the Johor state election last week, many party members have been urging to hold GE15 as soon as possible.

Yesterday, Umno Deputy President Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan was quoted saying to “strike while the iron is hot” in regards to the election.

“Winning an election and controlling the government means planning for a GE to be held at the right time. The recent elections show that the time is now,” he said in his speech at the Umno annual general assembly.

Noting that the opposition had lost many seats in Melaka, Sarawak and Johor, Mohamad had said that it was a perfect time as the opposition was “very weak” and divided.
