Falling trend in new Covid-19 cases continues - Health DG

KUALA LUMPUR - Daily new cases of Covid-19 in the country continued to drop when 17,828 cases were recorded yesterday compared with 19,105 cases on March 20, bringing the cumulative cases to 4,010,952.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said from 17,828 positive Covid-19 cases reported yesterday, 9,121 cases or 51.16 per cent involved category one while 8,551 cases or 47.96 per cent were in category two.

"Fifty five cases (0.31 per cent) were in category three; 48 cases (0.27 per cent) in category four and 53 cases (0.30 per cent ) in category five,” he said in a statement today.

He explained that from 156 cases of Covid-19 in category three, four and five, 33 cases were not vaccinated or have not completed vaccination; 64 cases had received two doses of vaccine but have not obtained their booster shots while 59 cases had been given booster dose.

Meanwhile, Dr Noor Hisham said 28,003 recovery cases were reported yesterday taking the cumulative recoveries to 3,712,668.

He said 358 cases required treatment at intensive care units (ICU) and 199 cases needed respiratory assistance.

According to Dr Noor Hisham, five states with critical ICU bed occupancy of more than 50 per cent were Kuala Lumpur (63 per cent), Kelantan (58 per cent), Johor (57 per cent), Selangor (57 per cent) and Perak (51per cent).

On the infectivity rate (Rt) of Covid-19 in the country, he said it was still at 0.92 with Sarawak recording the highest Rt at 1.03 followed by Perak with 1.01.
