NEW DELHI - Pakistan's Prime Minister Imran Khan on Tuesday suggested a mediation role for the 57-member Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in ending the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

Speaking at the 48th Session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers in Islamabad, Imran said the war is going have a huge impact on the world, and the OIC by working with China, whose Foreign Minister Wang Yi attended the meeting as a special guest, could achieve a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine.

"We should think about how we can mediate, how we can bring about a ceasefire," Imran said.

"If it keeps going the way it is, it will have great consequences for the rest of the world," he said.

Imran said he would discuss with the Chinese foreign minister how China and the OIC could play a role in ending the conflict.

The Pakistan prime minister said the countries that are "non-partisan" can play a role in promoting peace.

Pakistan has sought to remain neutral and this month abstained from the U.N. General Assembly vote that condemned Russia's military action against Ukraine. - Bernama
