SHAH ALAM - The Coalition for Clean and Fair Elections (Bersih 2.0) announced today that they plan to take legal action against the government for preventing Covid-19 positive voters from voting in the Johor state election.

Bersih 2.0 chairman, Thomas Fann stated that registered voters have the right to cast their votes in the elections and should not be prevented from doing so.

According to Bersih's observation, they have recorded five incidents where voters with Covid-19 status attended the polling station and were directed to return back home by the polling station supervisor.

"The restriction on Covid-19 positive voters to go to the polls is contrary to Article 119 of the Federal Constitution where all Malaysians registered as voters have the right to cast their votes in the election.

"The Election Commission should insist on allowing Covid-19 patients to cast their votes and provide them with appropriate facilities in order to carry out their responsibility as Malaysians." he said in a virtual press conference on Bersih 2.0's Johor state election observation report.

Fann also added that legal counsel from Bersih 2.0 and offended parties who were denied from voting during the state election would take the appropriate action in two weeks time.

In the Johor state election, the BN coalition has won 40 out of 56 of the state seats, clinching a supermajority to form a state government.
