The quote “fashion is about dreaming and making other people dream" by Donatella Versace resonated well with Malaysia's homegrown designers presenting their Raya collections at the #ZALORAYA2022 event by Zalora recently.

The line-up featured nh by Nurita Harith, Maslea, TAS by Tom Abang Saufi, PBR by Raeesa, Yadotsa, Naelofar, Ana&Aora, ZALIA, and Lubna.

Each fashion designer rocked the showcase with their own unique presentation, stretching beyond the usual catwalk down the runway.

Instead models zoomed through the crowd with a bicycle while wearing a kebaya, and teenage girls skated down the runway.

Safira Syukri, 33, full time Fashion Designer for Zalia said flowers was what inspired her Raya collection this time.

"This collection was developed during the second wave of the pandemic, a time when everyone was discovering new hobbies, and gardening was mine. This is how flowers became the main source of inspiration for this collection.

"For this season, we try to escape from the usual Zalia look by focusing more on pastel and soft colours,” she said in an interview with Sinar Daily.

Belle Annuar, 26, fresh face and a full time fashion designer for Lubna, said that their team were rooting for a playful and younger vibe collections of Raya which fits for young kids, teenagers and the plus size category.

"Nowadays skating is like the new trend for youngsters and that's what influenced the designs," she said referring to their models skating down the runway in Lubna pieces.

Suraya Sharifuddin, 42, fashionpreneur for Maslea said that being a “vintage soul” heavily influences the style of her collection.

"Since I am a very old school person, whatever I wear will be something from the past,"

"After my grandmother passed away, I started digging through her wardrobe and I realised that there were many collections I love and wanted to weave into this collection.

“I had always been wearing baju kebaya and I like something with a little unique twist which resembles my collections now." she said to Sinar Daily.

Other collections that stood out during the fashion show was by Raessa which featured rich and pastel tones while Yadosta was all about a floral theme.
