'Thank you for empowering us, stay strong' M'sians tell Haris Ibrahim diagnosed with cancer

SHAH ALAM - Tributes and prayers have poured in for political and human rights activist Haris Ibrahim following his Facebook posting that he was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer.

"Twelve days ago, I was diagnosed with lung cancer. Stage 4. How much time? More than 3 months, less than a year."

"I hope you understand that I tire easily these days. Hence, for now, I don't take calls or meet. God bless." he said in his Facebook page.

Haris is known for his charismatic and bold speeches against corrupt politicians and urging Malaysians to unite for better Malaysia, to stop race base politics and pushed for better policies for the poor for decades.

Haris, a lawyer was part of the Anything But Umno (ABU) movement in 2018 and called on Putrajaya to restore Sabah and Sarawak as equal partners in tandem with Malaysia Agreement in 1963.

In 2020, during the peak of Covid-19, Haris volunteered almost 12 hours daily to help the poor affected by the pandemic.

Facebook user Meng Chong wrote: "You are a true Malaysian. Please know that you are appreciated by many. Sorry to hear of your health issues. Stay strong. All the best to you and the family."
