SHAH ALAM - Bersatu will seek clarification on the status of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob after Umno's decision not to extend the agreement beyond July 31, said Bersatu Youth chief Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal.

"As we know, they (Umno) are desperate to make a comeback (to power), especially within the court cluster," he said referring to Umno leaders with cases linked to money laundering and corruption.

The Deputy Unity Minister added that he will abide by the party’s decision.

“We will not dictate to the Prime Minister like what Umno supreme council members are doing.

"We negotiate. That is the core of Perikatan Nasional," he told Sinar Daily.

He further said his party will then prepare for any possibility after the prime minister's reply, including a possible 15th General Election this year.

Recently, Ismail Sabri said he would abide by Umno's decision not to extend the MoU beyond July 31.

The historic MoU between the government and PH was inked in September last year to strengthen political stability amid the Covid-19 pandemic, following turmoil that saw the third prime minister being installed in one parliamentary term.
