Five million vehicles expected on roads starting today - Police

KUALA LUMPUR - About five million vehicles are expected to hit the roads starting today as people make their way back to their hometowns for Hari Raya which is expected to fall on May 3.

Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department Deputy Director Datuk Mohd Nadzri Hussain said the increasing trend of traffic movement was detected especially in the Klang Valley as people were making preparations for the celebration.

He said traffic will start building up when those travelling to the east coast and from north to south begin their journey.

“We are expecting about five million vehicles to be on the highway starting Friday.

"Police monitoring at the bus station said tickets were sold out.

"So, we can see everyone rushing to return to their hometowns," he said when met by Sinar Harian in Bukit Aman, here, on Thursday.

Mohd Nadzri reminded road users to follow the traffic rules and ensure the vehicles are in good condition for the journey besides planning the journey.

He said motorists must be prepared to travel and not drive while they are tired.

Apart from that, he said people should adopt a prudent attitude while on the road by not cutting the Q, driving on the emergency lane and violating traffic light rules.

"Cooperation from everyone is vital. We do not want such offences to result in unwanted outcomes such as fights or road bullying," he said.
