SHAH ALAM- The Breast Cancer Welfare Association Malaysia (BCWA) has named Lim Kim Foong as its new president.

Her term in office was effective from March 26, this year and she will serve until March 2024.

A breast cancer survivor herself, Lim or better known as Kim Lim has been an active member of the BCWA where she would share her experiences as well as extend support and care to the breast cancer community in the country.

She has built a diverse and successful career with multinational companies before joining BCWA with vast knowledge in leadership and a passion for positive changes within local communities.

“I am delighted and honoured to be elected as president of this well-established and well-loved organisation that consists of an extremely passionate team with a long history of dedicated donors and partners,” she said in a statement.

She said it was understandable that a breast cancer diagnosis could be emotionally and physically challenging, but the patients do not have to travel that path alone.

Hence, she said the support from BCWA could help patients thrive and connect through local programmes as well as other breast cancer survivors that can offer encouragement and emotional support.

“I have seen first-hand how great change can come from working with great partners in reducing the risk of premature mortality by providing public education, early detection of breast cancer and navigation of women for further investigations and timely medical treatment.

"Together, as a community of leaders, healthcare providers and business professionals, policy makers and individuals, we can work to make living life to the fullest after a breast cancer diagnosis for every patient, including metastatic, possible.

"This vision is what energises me," Kim added.

She further said that her goal in leading the organisation was to build on the achievements over the past 36 years and she looked forward to working with the BCWA to deliver emotional, social, and material support to the breast cancer community in Malaysia.

Joining Kim in a diverse and inclusive BCWA executive committee were Naliza Fahro Rozi as vice president, Sam Sinnan as the treasurer and Swee Lee as the secretary.

Meanwhile, executive committee members included Caryn Low, Cherry Lui, Anne Maheswari Naidu, Sim WenYee, Gan Pooi Chan and Wan Nadiah Wan Abdullah Yaakob who will be supported by a panel of technical advisors.

Among the technical advisors were consultant clinical psychologist Paul Jambunathan, consultant radiologist Dr Evelyn Ho, consultant breast surgeons Dr Patricia Gomez and Professor Datuk Dr Yip Cheng Har and consultant clinical oncologist Dr Mastura Md Yusof.

Upon Kim's appointment as the president, Ranjit Kaur will remain active in BCWA as the former president of the organisation.
