SHAH ALAM - Bersatu Youth Chief Wan Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal is eyeing the Bagan Serai seat in the 15th general elections (GE15). The present Bagan Serai MP is Umno's Noor Azmi Ghazali who won with a majority of 172 seats.

Wan Fayhsal said he has been making steady progress in reaching out to voters since 2020, including providing assistance during the Covid-19 crisis and the December worst floods.

"Bagan Serai is my mother's village and in terms of my focus and giving the space to be a candidate here, I have no issues serving, he told reporters after a Hari Raya gathering in Simpang Ampat yesterday.

He was further quoted in Sinar Harian as saying as Bersatu Youth chief: "I have the right to contest anywhere. Any seat can be contested if the party allows."

However, Wan Fayhsal said the Perikatan Nasional coalition - Bersatu and PAS are still discussing seat allocation between both the parties.

In GE14, PAS' Rohayu Bakar won 17,048 votes against Bersatu's Adam Asmuni's 12,987 votes. Wan Fayhsal, a senator from 2020 to March 2023 further said there has been calls to hand over the Bagan Serai seat to PAS.

"I recognise PAS's strength in Bagan Serai as the party had a strong bloc at every election," he said.

But he said Bersatu has its own advantage that can be utilised with PAS which is under the same coalition by offering youths that are highly educated with an understanding of the cross-cultural atmosphere.
