SHAH ALAM - The government needs to provide an anti-corruption learning module to school and university students so that these symptoms of corruption practice can be contained early and aggressively.

The National Islamic Youth Association (Pembina) Activism Authority Chairman Muhammad Iqmal Haziq Nasharuddin said that this needed to be done so that young people would not be involved in corruption.

According to him, although the percentage of teenagers and young people to be involved with the community is relatively low, early education is vital for the future.

"The most important thing is to start with the roots first.

"We need to educate the younger generation to understand what corruption is, how corruption can lead the state institution to collapse and be paralysed.

“We also need to tell them the punishment that will be given to someone if they are involved in this misconduct. We need to give them an early warning," he told Sinar Harian on Monday.

He said that teenagers and young people also need to be responsible for preventing this rash phenomenon rather than continuing to be free and causing state losses.

“Young people need to understand that corruption practice is very vile in terms of the law. Young people also need to reject the practice and educate other people to prevent corruption so that the efforts to stop this can be more efficient.

“Nowadays, many are easily influenced by their peers. So, the youths can use this concept by influencing other friends, so they don't get involved with the corrupt culture," he said.

Muhammad Iqmal added that it needs to be stopped considering that corruption has become synonymous with Malaysia due to this phenomenon being often carried out by various parties for their own interests.

“Corruption has taken place no matter the rank. It is like a disease that is difficult to cure.

“This symptom causes many things to change, for example a change in a person's behavior. It is also proven that corruption gives negative impacts, especially to our country," he said.
