Age plays significant role in IVF success rate - Fertility doctor

SHAH ALAM - The chances of pregnancy is higher if a woman is younger.

KL Fertility Clinic obstetrician and gynaecologist Dr Natasha Ain Mohd Noor said for women younger than 30, the percentage of a successful embryo transfer was 60 to 70 per cent at a time.

This, she said was based on the statistics of the in vitro fertilization (IVF) success rate, worldwide.

"Meanwhile, the success rate for women between 30 and 35 years old, would be 30 to 40 per cent in average," she said.

Dr Natasha said this when sharing her opinion and experience in treating IVF patients on Sinar Daily's talkshow Relatable, titled "The Struggles of Conceiving" at Kompleks Karangkraf, here.

She said that her goal was to educate couples and the public to not wait too long in taking the next step to conceive.

Sharing her experience on the show, she said she was happy to see that there were patients who were not yet married but preparing themselves to be aware of the situation and make proper preparations for the future.

“IVF is not the last resort since it is a diagnosis and a treatment.

"My advice would be to be prepared and if you are not pregnant yet and want to conceive, give yourself a timeline," she said.

During the live show, Dr Natasha was joined by two other panelists with experience in IVF treatment who were model Kim Raymond and entrepreneur Hazwani Mohd.

The episode addressed the causes of infertility, the social stigma surrounding infertility, and how it is always perceived exclusively as a women’s problem.
