Police, Perhilitan investigating alleged tiger sighting in Kemensah Heights

SHAH ALAM - Ampang Jaya police are investigating a claim on a tiger sighting in Kemensah Heights, Hulu Klang.

This follows a WhatsApp message that has been making its rounds on social media, detected today, claiming that a security guard has seen the tiger in the area.

Ampang Jaya police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Farouk Eshak said upon receiving the information, police were despatched to the area to investigate the claim.

He said initial investigations revealed that a security guard has spotted a tiger near Jalan Tropika, Kemensah 3, in Kemensah Heights, at about 12.45am, on Friday.

He said police then informed the Selangor Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) to assist in tracking down the tiger.

"Personnel from the department arrived at about 4pm to track down the tiger.

"However, they did not succeed due to the incomplete information given," he said in a statement, today, adding that the department's personnel were still at the location tracking down the tiger.

Mohamad Farouk said so far there were no police reports lodged on the alleged incident and no eyewitnesses had came forward to provide details of the incident.

He said police have also increased patrols in the area to ensure the safety of the residents.

He said it has been confirmed that there were no cases of tigers escaping from Zoo Negara.

Mohamad Farouk urged for members of the public with more information to come forward and cooperate with the police.

“The public is also reminded not to simply spread fake news,” he added.
