SHAH ALAM – Bersatu President Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin will nominate a suitable candidate to replace Ampang MP Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin in the cabinet post.

Bersatu’s information chief Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan said this was following Zuraida’s announcement to leave the party and intended to resign from her post as Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister.

He said that Zuraida’s action was expected and not surprising.

Wan Saiful said prior to this, Bersatu had discussed Zuraida’s position after analysing the latter’s latest move.

“A show-cause letter was also issued following her decision.

“The Bersatu political bureau had actually taken a stance on her position in the party. That is why, for me, Zuraida’s action is expected and not surprising.

“While the whole country is talking about the importance of political stability, it seems that Zuraida is acting only based on her own judgment,” he said in a Facebook post today.

Zuraidah earlier revealed that she was joining PBM and would meet Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob as soon as possible to discuss her resignation as Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister.

She had decided to join PBM as she is attracted to its core principles of multiracial engagement, women empowerment, youth empowerment, economic development, education and the advancement of science and technology as elements to make Malaysia a developed country.

Zuraida was formerly a PKR leader and in August 2020, she joined Bersatu together with former PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali and eight other members.

A month after joining, both Azmin and Zuraida were appointed as Bersatu's supreme leadership council members.
