KUALA LUMPUR - The celebration of the National Journalists Day (Hawana) on May 29 each year is a recognition of the government and people for the contribution of journalists to the country.

Acting Bernama chief executive officer Roslan Ariffin said the celebration will inspire journalists to play a bigger role, especially in the development of the country and preserving the harmony of the community.

" In 365 days a year there is a National Journalists Day (Hawana), this is a recognition to us (journalists)... It is a very meaningful celebration on National Journalist's Day on every May 29,” he said.

He made the comments when speaking as a guest in ‘Korespondent Bernama’, a programme of Bernama TV entitled "Hawana: Suntikan Semangat buat Golongan Wartawan’ sempena Hawana 2022.

Roslan also shared his views on the proposal to implement the celebration of Hawana in future as a platform to expose journalists in conferences to be better and more competitive in carrying out their assignments.

The Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) and Ikatan Setia Kawan Wartawan Malaysia Indonesia (ISWAMI) will be the prime movers in organising Hawana 2022 with the support of the Communications and Multimedia Ministry (K-KOMM) as well as involving other media organisations, associations and practitioners.

Hawana 2022 which will be held on Sunday in Melaka, is organised to recognise the roles of journalists and media practitioners to share their thoughts and improve the development and growth of the media industry in Malaysia. - BERNAMA
