‘Chinese community starting to support BN again’ - Wee

KUALA LUMPUR – The state elections in Melaka and Johor reveal the trend that the Chinese community is starting to support Barisan Nasional (BN) again.

MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong said during the state elections, the party had won 21 out of 28 sears, while in Johor they won 40 out of 56 seats.

“We won at district voting stations with Chinese majorities, where we had lost in the previous General Election.

“Thank you and congratulations to (Umno Johor President) Datuk Seri Hasni Mohammad,” he said.

He said that during his speech at BN’s 48th Convention held at Dewan Merdeka, World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur today.

Wee, who is also the Transport Minister said the MCA would remain as a moderate, progressive and relevant party.

“Offering something better to the voter by continuing our services to the public no matter the race, religion and background,” he said.

The Ayer Hitam Member of Parliament also said MCA fully supported Umno’s proposition to name Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob as its icon and to continue leading the country as Prime Minister after upcoming 15th General Election, if they were given the mandate by the public.
