SHAH ALAM - Former Prime Minister (PM) Datuk Seri Najib Razak today cynically takes another shot at Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, asking if the latter does not secure the support of the majority of Member of Parliaments (MPs) to head the government again.

In a Facebook post, Najib said it was not like Muhyiddin, who is the Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) president did not try, but questioned if he did not receive the support of the 119 MPs.

“Does this mean Anwar (Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim), Mahathir (Parti Pejuang Tanah Air chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad) and Shafie (Warisan President Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal) lied and had slandered Muhyiddin (by saying) he wanted to topple Ismail (Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob) to be the PM again immediately?

“It’s okay. If you cant get 119 (supports of the MPs) now, you can try to press the button,” he said, adding that after the 15th General Election (GE15), there was a chance to get 222 backings.

On Monday, Shafie claimed that Muhyiddin had contacted him two months ago to get his backing to become prime minister again.

He also claimed that Muhyiddin told him that he had the backing of 119 MPs in the 222-member Dewan Rakyat.

He said he discussed the matter with PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who he said was agreeable to supporting Muhyiddin.

However, Muhyiddin yesterday refuted the claims, stating that those discussions were purely focused on the15th General Election (GE15).

Muhyiddin was appointed prime minister following the fall of PH after the Sheraton Move in February 2020 but resigned after 17 months in power after a group of Umno MPs led by party president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi withdrew support for him.

Ismail Sabri was subsequently appointed PM and signed an MOU for bipartisanship support with PH in September last year to restore political stability.

Meanwhile, in another posting, Najib said that many Bersatu members were still using the propaganda that Muhyiddin was terminated due to 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) case.

“I have explained many times and showed the proofs that Muhyiddin was terminated as Deputy Prime Minister in 2014 as he had conspired with Mahathir and Mukriz (Mukhriz Mahathir) to topple me.

“He was terminated by Umno’s committee as he campaigned on the same stage with Pakatan Harapan (PH) at the ‘Save Malaysia’ scam event,” he said.

Najib said despite his explanations, the Bersatu gang member did not believe it hence it was fine, they could choose to believe that Muhyiddin was fired due to 1MDB if they wanted.

He however questioned if Muhyiddin had betrayed former PM Tun Abdullah Badawi, himself, Mahathir, PH, King and the Malay rulers for his own benefits or due to other scandals.

“Enough with your propaganda, he only has one aim.

“You know and we understood this a long time ago. If not, why would he gather all the ‘frogs’ and scheme of things to lead a party which comprised of these political ‘frogs’?,” he said.
