The 5th Malaysia International Film Festival (MIFFest) and the Malaysia Golden Global Awards (MGGA) 2022 announced the nomination list during the press conference held at Kuala Lumpur Dadi Cinema today alongside Tourism Malaysia as the festival's supporting partner.

There are over 100 films submitted for this year's MGGA which are "Drowning In Holy Water" (Iran), "Full Time" (France), "Hail, Driver!" (Malaysia), "Memoryland" (Germany, Vietnam), "No Ground Beneath The Feet" (Bangladesh), "Rehana" (Singapore, Bangladesh), "The Silent Forest" (Taiwan), "Two Friends" (India), "Whether the Weather is Fine" (Philippines, Singapore), "White Building" (France, Cambodia) nominated as the Top 10 Films of 5th MGGA 2022.

The films will be judged by Indonesian actress Christine Hakim, Filipino Filmmaker Lav Diaz, Udine Far East Film Festival president Sabrina Baracetti, Malaysian Director based in Taiwan Ho Wi Ding and Malaysian Director Chong Keat Aun.

MIFFest and Malaysia Golden Global Awards chairperson Joanne Goh said, Kim Dong-Ho and Hou Hsiao-Hsien will be receiving the awards for the Lifetime Achievement Awards at the awards ceremony this year to make up to the lost years due to Covid-19 pandemic.

“We were actually planning to present this award to director Hou Hsiao-Hsien two years ago, but unfortunately we were forced to postpone the plan due to the pandemic."

“Both of these best known figures have brought a lot of acclaimed work to the festival and the entire film industry.

“Kim Dong-Ho is one of the founders of the Busan International Film Festival and Gangneung International Film Festival, as well as the Honorary President of our Malaysia International Film Festival. Without his guidance, I might not have the passion to run this festival until today,” she said.

The festival this year will be launched with the opening film ‘Edge of The World’, a film from the United States, telling the story of Captain James Brooke, which was filmed in Sarawak, Malaysia and supported by Sarawak Tourism Board in July with a list of renowned films.
