Muafakat Nasional: Inappropriate for Pas to threaten Umno

Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid said the cooperation of the parties was built on sincerity, not threats.
In issuing statements in relation to MN, he said leaders of both parties must be harmonious.
"There should not be any threats. It would be much better to say good things rather than making threatening statements," he said after officiating a Parent Teacher Association meeting at SMK Padang Terap, here on Tuesday.
Mahdzir was responding to a statement by Pas national election director Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor who was reported to have said that the party was confident that Umno's refusal to defend MN would cause the party to be rejected by voters in the 15th General Election (GE15).
Sanusi who is the Kedah Menteri Besar said the principle of unification of the ummah which was the key ingredient of MN's unity would gain support from the people like how Pas did not give up in defending MN although it was seen a crack awaiting to split.
Sanusi said it was in line with Pas' vision stating that the unity of the Islamic community was important to strengthen Malay politics.
"My advice for the Kedah Menteri Besar is, it is better to say things that could bring harmony because it would not get better by saying things that are not good.
"If we berate someone everyday, how would they feel? How do we come to good terms? It would be better to talk with kindness," he said.
He said even though threats are part of the political life, it does mean that it should be practiced.
"it is no longer the question of safety, the situation now is for the future of the ummah, not just Umno and Pas. The future for them is still there with or without MN," he said.
Mahdzir said previously there has been no consensus between both parties, but the government during the time still proceeded with the agendas of the nation.
"We still existed during the time without any consensus, it is not necessary to agree, but if we want harmony, then find a way.
"We had political parties, Barisan Nasional (BN) and Pas and that brought the era of MN, but if the leaders are constantly talking about negative things every day, how will MN remain?," he said.
