Sinar Harian bags best video documentary award at MPI-Petronas journalism awards 2021

The “Frontliners: Mati Hidup Semula” documentary revolved around the struggle of the country’s frontline workers in battling the Covid-19 pandemic from the first wave until the emergence of several aggressive variants such as Delta.

KUALA LUMPUR - Sinar Harian has won first place in the Malaysian Press Institute (MPI)-Petronas Malaysian Journalism Awards for the Best Video Documentary category through its report entitled “Frontliners: Mati Hidup Semula”.

The report by Sinar Harian Premium news editor Zamri Rambli, its content unit chief Nurul Riduan Nor Ashah, journalist Liza Mokhtar, cameramen Mohd Qawiem Mohd Amin and Muhammad Hafiz Adnan as well as video editors Mohd Nasaruddin Talkah and Afnan Imadi Zainal Ayub took home RM5,000, a certificate and trophy.

The winners were announced in conjunction with the Malaysian Press Night (MWM 2022) which took place at Shangri-La Hotel, here, on Friday.

The “Frontliners: Mati Hidup Semula” documentary revolved around the struggle of the country’s frontline workers in battling the Covid-19 pandemic from the first wave until the emergence of several aggressive variants such as Delta.

However, during the outbreak, the actual number of the Health Ministry frontliners who died of the deadly infection was unknown.

In sharing the hardship of the health workers, Sinar Harian took us back to the first time the war against Covid-19 was launched.

The report also revealed that a total of 6,725 frontliners from the ministry of various positions were infected by the virus (as of May 2021) and what was even more tragic was that there were five deaths recorded.

MWM is an annual programme organised by MPI since Sept 16, 1981, to present awards to the winners of the journalism awards which was first introduced in 1980, which was 42 years ago.

This year, MWM received a contribution of RM394,500 in total, in addition to a RM300,000 sponsorship from Petronas which has been a sponsor for the cash prize for the event from 1994.

Contributiions also included the purchase of tables worth RM10,000 and RM7,500 by 27 organisations and other contributions including from the state government.
