SHAH ALAM - AirAsia X (AAX) Bhd has announced the resignation of Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz as chairman of the low-cost carrier.

The resignation is effective from July 1, 2022.

Rafidah also stepped down her position as chairman of the Risk Committee and the chairman of the Nomination and Remuneration Committee. “... (Tan Sri) would soon have served the term allowed, as an independent director.

“(Tan Sri) will then have to comply with the change of status, from Independent Board Member, to Non -Independent Director, and other subsequent requirements,” it stated.

According to AAX’s 2021 annual report, Rafidah, 78 was appointed as independent non-executive director and chairman of the board on March 31, 2011, and redesignated as a senior independent non-executive chairman upon listing of the company on July 10, 2013.

Rafidah was Malaysia's longest-serving international trade and industry minister from 1987 to 2008.

Meanwhile, in a separate Bursa filing, AirAsia X appointed Tunku Mahmood Fawzy Tunku Muhiyiddin, 63, as an independent non-executive director effective on Monday (27th June).

Tunku Mahmood was previously a board member of Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB), Hong Leong Islamic Bank Bhd, Pos Malaysia Bhd, Ethos Capital One Sdn Bhd, and Federation of Investment Managers Malaysia, Energy Africa Limited.
