SHAH ALAM - Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi wants the National Recovery Council (NRC) led by Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin scrapped, stating it is no longer relevant after Putrajaya's move to set up Inflation Jihad Task Force.

He further claimed NRC has shown no results and acts as a platform for Bersatu President Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to boost his and his party's image but "may not represent the voice of the rakyat". He further urged Muhyiddin, the former prime minister to use alternative channels to contribute his ideas.

"Its function can and is being done by think tanks such as Khazanah Research Institute (KRI) who have long been active in providing advice and recommendations to the government," he said in a statement.

He further claimed NRC has failed to perform its duties and it was time for the government to dissolve this council and "free up minister's time from attending meetings of the ineffective council."
