SHAH ALAM - The public should cut down on egg consumption if its price is too expensive, says Melaka’s Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry (KPDNHEP) director Norena Jaafar.

She advised consumers to reduce their consumption of eggs, if they knew that the price was about to go up.

“As consumers, if we knew the price of eggs will increase, we should reduce eating eggs.

"If we eat about 20 eggs a week, we can reduce it to 10 or 15 eggs.

“It should not be a problem, that's our lifestyle," she told reporters after her visit to the Melaka Historic City Council in Ayer Keroh, Melaka.

Norena urged the public especially Malaccans to bear with the inflation situation as it was not only affecting people in Malaysia, but also those all over the world.

She added that the government has decided to provide various subsidies for chicken to reduce the burden of consumers.

On Wednesday, the Cabinet decided to continue providing subsidy for chicken and not to float its price, capping the retail price of standard chicken at RM9.40 per kg in Peninsular Malaysia effective July 1.
