Instant noodles, canned milk prices up by 10 to 40 per cent

SHAH ALAM - Grocery store traders are experiencing price hikes for necessities including instant noodles and branded canned milk.

Grocery store helper in Section 7, here, Arman Hosin, 35, said other than that, prices of canned foods, bottled drinks and eggs have increased this week.

He said the prices of branded instant noodles have soared up to almost 10 per cent compared to last week with branded canned milk prices hiked up to 40 per cent more.

"Instant noodles went from RM5.50 to RM5.99 and branded canned milk went from RM2.50 to RM3.50, even sardines went up by 20 cents.

"C grade eggs have raised in prices because suppliers are selling them at a higher price with a tray being RM13.50 from RM11.10 prior," he said when interviewed by Sinar Harian yesterday.

Another grocery store helper in Section 15 Rosidi Ibrahim, 46 said the price hikes were unavoidable because businesses need to bear the cost.

"Wholesalers informed suppliers raising prices were caused by multiple factors which led us to raise the prices including small bottled water from RM1.20 to RM1.40," he said.

A wholesaler in Section 25 known as Muslim said the pricing for necessities had increased by around 10 per cent since last week.

He said the price hikes had took place multiple times throughout the year and were unavoidable due to suppliers selling the goods at higher prices.

"Dry goods like onions and potatoes have started increasing since the Chinese New Year," he said.
