BUKIT GANTANG - Pas leader Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan confirmed that he was involved in drafting the deputy prime minister's agreement as pointed out by Perikatan Nasional (PN) Chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

Takiyuddin said he drafted the agreement in his capacity as the de facto law minister at the time and not the party's secretary-general.

"I am the former law minister, I legislate matters involving the law, not because I am Takiyuddin or anything else.

"When he (Muhyiddin) said so, it is true, I have to do it, it is called a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA).

"I had only drafted it, the signatures are from others," he told reporters at the Energy and Natural Resources ministry event at Sungai Kerang Multipurpose Hall near Trong here.

This comes after Pas President Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang had said last Friday that there was no such agreement made for the deputy prime minister's post PN and the prime minister.

Takiyuddin, the Energy and Natural Resources said not all leaders knew about the MoA. "Maybe the question was spontaneous, when he was asked, he said he didn't know and was unsure.

"We have to ask the master (Abdul Hadi) whether he knows it or not because he was not involved in signing the MoA," he said.

Takiyiddion further said the deputy prime minister's post was not necessary as it was not in the Constitution.

"When it is not there (In the constitution), it is up to the prime minister and the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to give consent," he said.

On July 11, Muhyiddin had said Takiyuddin was the one who drafted the agreement between Perikatan Nasional and him.

Muhyiddin added that he and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob signed the agreement, witnessed by Home Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin and Communications and Multimedia Minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa.
