SHAH ALAM - Umno's Datuk Seri Jamal Md Yunos said he is ready to give up his position as Selangor Barisan Nasional (BN) Treasurer, in order to have Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz be appointed to the post instead.

Jamal said he was ready to withdraw himself from the position which is responsible for the management of finances and funds for BN party components in the 22 parliamentary and 56 state constituencies in Selangor.

Jamal who has held the position since 2019 said Zafrul would be suitable for the position considering his banking background and expertise in finance management.

"The Selangor BN needs an individual with 'heavyweight' charisma like him to face the 15th General Election (GE15).

"I urge the Selangor State BN leaders to consider this suggestion to immediately appoint Zafrul as Selangor BN Treasurer after I resign," he said.

Jamal said his decision to make way for Zafrul shows he sincerely wants to see Selangor be led by someone who is intellectual, professional and reliable.

"This decision is to also ensure that Zafrul would be in Selangor BN's leadership line-up which is headed by the chairman, Tan Sri Noh Omar," he said.

Previously, Jamal reportedly proposed for Zafrul to be made as the "poster boy" of Selangor BN in GE15.
