SHAH ALAM - The human resources ministry and the immigration department has assured source countries that the management of foreign workers in Malaysia will be based on the rule of law and further assured that workers rights will be protected.

This comes after Indonesia snubbed Malaysia over sending its citizens to work here, citing a breach in a worker recruitment deal signed between the two countries which Indonesian Embassy here claimed allegations of trafficking and forced labour.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob had then instructed the Human Resources Ministry and the Home Ministry to settle the matter with Indonesia before it escalates further.

Today, during a joint press conference between the two ministries, Home Minister Hamzah Zainuddin and Human Resources ministry said they held discussions with the Indonesian counterpart.

Hamzah said the discussion was to end any misunderstanding as soon as possible.

"The ongoing discussions show we need some changes after issues raised jointly between the two parties," he said.

Human resources Minister Datuk M Saravanan was also present at the press conference.
