Political heavyweights to be called over funds from UKSB ledger, says minister

Law minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar says an investigation has been lodged to determine if there was elements of corruption.

KUALA LUMPUR - Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) will be calling names listed in the controversial Ultra Kirana Sdn Bhd (UKSB) ledger, said Law minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.

He said an investigation has been lodged to determine if there was elements of corruption.

"The MACC has received a few complaints on the individuals listed in a ledger such as the one presented in court recently.

"MACC will call all the names that listed in the ledger," he said when answering a question from Khoo Poay Tiong (PH-Kota Melaka) over the status of the probe in the Dewan Rakyat today.

Previously, Sinar Harian reported a witness telling the High Court that UKSB gave RM1.3 million to the former Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin in 2018.

Former UKSB administrative manager David Tan Siong Sun, 47 said this during a cross-examination by lawyer Datuk Ahmad Zaidi Zainal who represented the former Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi in the trial regarding the Overseas Visa (VLN) project.

Besides Muhyiddin, the company had said they made contributions to health minister Khairy Jamaluddin, Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican, Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, former Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal and former Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman.

Another heavyweight alleged to have received millions in political donations from UKSB, the High Court here heard were former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad alleged of receiving RM2.6 million in political donations when he was the then PPBM chairman from the contractor after the last general election.

Testifying in Umno President Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s corruption trial, UKSB’s former administrative manager, Tan further said Umno information chief Shahril Hamdan received a total of RM1.162 million, as stated in a ledger. Former MCA president Datuk Seri Chan Kong Choy received RM7.8 million from UKSB, and former housing and local government minister Datuk Seri Ong Ka Chuan received RM920,000, Tan told the court.

Following this, MACC in a statement had said that it will open an investigation paper over the alleged accusations.
