PUTRAJAYA - Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah urges the public to give their support to the Tobacco and Smoking Control Bill 2022 which was presented in Parliament.

Dr Noor Hisham on his Twitter said the power to enact the bill was held by the people.

"Give your full support to the Health Ministry’s efforts in implementing the act to ban cigarettes, e-cigarettes (vape) and all smoking devices to the generation born after 2007.

"Let us all band together to create a generation free from any smoking practices including cigarettes and vapes," he tweeted.

On Wednesday Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar presented the bill to be discussed for the first time in Dewan Rakyat.

The bill, among others, would ban individuals born on Jan 1, 2007 onwards from buying, smoking and possessing tobacco products or smoking devices.

Under the bill, those who are found guilty can be fined not more than RM5,000.
