SHAH ALAM - Selangor Government to increase drone use and patrol by the Environment Department (JAS) to prevent further pollution of Sungai Chandong, Sungai Tengkorak and Sungai Udang Telok.

Tourism, Environment, Green Technology and Selangor Indigenous Affairs Exco Hee Loy Sian said Selangor Water Management Authority (Luas) and JAS implemented continuous enforcement in areas surrounding those three rivers in Klang.

"The initiative targets manufacturing activities that produce industrial effluents and scheduled wastes.

"Following the frequency of pollution cases reported, daily and weekend patrols done by JAS officers will be increased in the involved industrial areas," he said, answering a question from Port Klang Assemblyman Azmizam Zaman Huri regarding the state government's action to curb the pollution of the three rivers and its effects to the ecological system as well as the environment during the Selangor State Legislative Assembly last Friday.

Loy Sian informed that Luas introduced policies like Polluters Pay Principle (PPP) and Zero Discharge Policy (ZDP) to reduce pollution matters due to industrial activities and to improve the quality of the state's water resources.

He said the state government had also started to control the type of industry to be allowed to operate in Telok Gong and which was restricted to light and moderate industries.

"JAS also conducts early investigative research and suggests mitigation action plans as well as river conservation in the short term, moderate and long term," he said.
