KUALA LUMPUR - The Registrar of Societies (RoS) has approved Umno’s application to amend its constitution to allow party elections to be held no later than six months after the General Election (GE).

In a statement today, the party’s secretary general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan confirmed receiving a letter from RoS over the matter, this evening.

He said RoS has also requested that a party election be held in one term of the parliamentary general election.

“The RoS' approval is effective today (July 29).

“This means that the party election for this term would only be held no later than six months after the 15th general election (GE15) is held,” he explained.

Ahmad has also on behalf of Umno expressed gratitude to RoS for approving the party’s application.

UMNO prior to this had approved an amendment to the party's constitution allowing party elections to be held no later than six months after the GE, to enable members to focus on the election.
