BUTTERWORTH - The Penang Water Supply Corporation (PBAPP) has informed that the operations of the Sungai Dua Water Treatment Plant (LRA) here are not affected by the water surge incident in Baling, Kedah yesterday.

PBAPP said as at 1 pm today, the Sungai Dua LRA’s production capacity was at its maximum level and it was continuously monitoring the quality of raw water abstracted from Sungai Muda, Kedah as a precautionary measure.

"Based on PBAPP’s monitoring, as of 1 pm today, the raw water has a stable turbidity level and the situation is normal for now,” it said in a statement.

Earlier today, PBAPP issued a warning notice to consumers in the state via its Facebook page after finding that the turbidity level of the raw water at the Lahar Tiang intake reached 261 nephelometric turbidity unit (NTU) at 11am today.

The raw water turbidity level at the Sungai Dua LRA was 172 NTU and the output of treated water at the Sungai Dua LRA was 1,012.5 million litres per day, it said adding that the situation was likely to be caused by the floods that hit Baling, Kedah, yesterday.

For more information and assistance regarding water supply, customers can contact the PBAPP’s 24-Hour Call Centre at 04-2558255. - BERNAMA
