Kelantan govt sets up 30 Darul Niswah to assist women - Exco

State Welfare, Women and Family Development Committee chairman Datuk Mumtaz Md Nawi said Darul Niswah has served as a centre that coordinates and combines the activities of women in various skills and entrepreneurial activities.
She said the state government is committed to realising Darul Niswah as a women's activity centre in each parliamentary constituency.
"Darul Niswah, which is managed through Pusat Pembangunan Wanita Kelantan (PPWK), has thus far trained a total of 6,826 trainees free of charge since 2005 and of that number, a total of 3,927 trainees have successfully graduated.
"Among the focuses given through Darul Niswah are skills programmes involving sewing, handicrafts, processing of healthy food and drinks, rural culinary courses that focus on traditional and western food as well as pastries,” she said.
She said this when met by Bernama after officiating Darul Niswah Wakaf Bharu here today which was also attended by Wakaf Bharu assemblyman Mohd Rusli Abdullah and the centre chairman Halimaton Ishak.
Commenting further, Mumtaz said that she also hopes that with the establishment of Darul Niswah it will become one of the must-visit places and become a tourism hub that also offers handicraft products produced by Kelantan women.
She said that handicraft products such as pouches and tote bags have successfully entered international markets such as Japan and they are also used as souvenirs by state government representatives when visiting foreign countries such as Japan, China, London, Dubai, Egypt and Turkey.
"We will draw up various other programmes that can benefit women and the state government is also hoping that Darul Niswah will not only become a one-stop centre but also a Women Excellent Centre.
"Darul Niswah can also help women generate income between RM1,000 and up to RM20,000 a month, based on their skills,” she said. - BERNAMA
