KUALA LUMPUR - A great way to stay fit and collaborate.

Sinar Harian today celebrated its 16th anniversary by organising a fun walk with Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) to promote a healthy lifestyle.

City Hall's culture, arts, tourism and sports director Khairul Azmir Ahmad said it is a great collaboration between the government and private sector that saw 5,000 participants taking part in the 5km walk.

“Today's turnout is overwhelming as normally our statistics show not less than 3,000 participants per programme.

“We can see several YBs have also joined the programme," he told Sinar daily, referring to Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman and Pokok Sena MP Mahfuz Omar.

He praised the participants for waking up early for the 7am flag-off at Dataran DBKL, Jalan Raja Laut, stating such activities should be encouraged as statistics from World Health Organisation (WHO) shows an increasing number of Malaysians suffer from diabetes and blood pressure.

“DBKL is trying to promote a health programme for people to join in Sunday mornings," he said, adding that they also organise performances, concerts, cultural and tourism programmes from time to time.

He also said that the objective of the programme is definitely achieved.

“If the objective of the programme is to gather people together, that's done. If it wants to live up to its name, which is to have fun, well that is also achieved,” he said.

Participant TC Lim, 65, said the fun-walk activity organised by Sinar Harian and DBKL is a good initiative for people to mingle around.

“One of my friends suggested joining the programme as we regularly walk every Sunday and I thought why not,” he said when approached.

He added the programme brought back memories he had back in his younger days

“At first, I just wanted to try (to join the event) because it has been a long time since we gathered together due to lockdowns and it rekindled back all those time I had lost,” he added.

Dyana Qhahsiela, 15, said it was good to be out and about again.

“I would definitely participate in more programmes like this in the future,” she said.
