SHAH ALAM - Mobility Werk Group Sdn Bhd (MW Group) with a business track record of 50 years in the automotive industry launches the country’s first electric vehicle charger (EVC) assembly line, today.

The event was launched by Exco and Melaka State Legislative Assembly Member for Tanjung Bidara Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh, alongside Mobility Werk Group Executive Chairman Zulkifli Kasim at MW Group office located at Shah Alam.

The launch of the component was in line with the company’s target to boost the EV ecosystem in Malaysia with strategic collaborations focusing on the localisation of manufacturing and talent development to shape a competitive supply chain ecosystem for Malaysia and Asia Oceania markets.

“Malaysia as with the rest of the world is heading towards the EV industry and this indicates that the Internal Combustion Engine stage or known as ‘ICE’ will end at some point.

“Therefore, MW Group has taken strategic and sustainable steps to work with technological partners globally.

“MW Group will seek more strategic collaborations to bring about the localisation of EV parts and components. This forms our strategic plan in playing a pivotal role in transitioning the automotive industry to EV technology,” he said during his speech at the launching ceremony.

He added that years of experience in the automotive industry gave them the resources and local talent to complement the EV ecosystem in the country.

He further said that the company planned to set up a smart factory by 2023 to deliver cost-competitive EV parts, components, and chargers.

Today’s launch would pave the way to their own EVC brand which would create history as the first locally made charger and brand in the country.

Meanwhile, Rauf said the initiatives by MW Group to contribute toward the country’s preparation for the industry received full support from the Malacca state government.

“The State Government of Malacca fully supports and welcomes the initiatives set by Mobility Werk as it complements Malaysia’s drive towards EV industry readiness.

“The efforts conducted are also in line with the vision to establish the state of Melaka as a state of green technology in the near future,” he said after the launch of the event.

He said the work visit from the Malacca state government was in line for them to receive new investment for the assembly line in the state.

“I am here for the work visit as we get ready to receive new investment that will make Malacca the first place for EV vehicle technology assembly line.

“I see this facility as providing industry support to new investments that will enter Malacca soon and let's all pray that Malacca will become the first place to assemble electric cars in Malaysia,” he added.
