KUCHING - Visitors from peninsular Malaysia and Sabah as well as from abroad are invited to join in the ‘What about Kuching’ or WAK 2022 Festival which would be held in October after a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

WAK founder, Donald Tan said the festival which entered its sixth edition this year is expected to see more than 250,000 visitors with the involvement of about 50 players as well as members of the creative community such as arts, cultural and lifestyle aspects.

"Earlier, most visitors of the festival were from Sarawak, nonetheless, we want the involvement of visitors from the Peninsula and so on as they would their family members to contribute to the total visitors to the state.

"More than 100 items, as well as interesting activities ranging from performances to workshops, would be held for visitors. The full list of activities throughout the festival will be released on Sept 1," he told Bernama.

Themed "From Community for Community’, WAK 2022 is mobilised by the community to celebrate arts, culture and lifestyle of Sarawak with programmes of various genre held at several areas in the city.

Donald said apart from that, renowned foreign creative communities from United States, Japan and Singapore would also be invited to take part in the festival and they would also provide workshop training as an attraction to visitors.

He said WAK would provide arts, culture and local lifestyle industry players the opportunity to expand the group to the next stage through networking with foreign players.

For the time being, Donald said WAK is a private initiative which receives funding from the Sarawak Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Ministry. - BERNAMA
