Baby killed, seven injured after car crashes into ditch

TANGKAK - A baby died while seven others including two children and a senior citizen injured when the vehicle they were travelling in crashed and overturned into a ditch at Kilometre 161.1 of the North-South Expressway heading north yesterday.

Tangkak Fire and Rescue Department Operations Commander Senior Fire Officer II Nor Zait Iskandar Md Nor said they received a distress call on the incident at 8.19pm.

He said six personnel with a Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) and Emergency Medical Response Service (EMRS) were deployed to the location.

“The road accident involved a Perodua Alza crashing into the shoulder of the road. There were eight victims in the vehicle.

“A baby aged five months old was pronounced dead on the scene by medical officers,” he said in a statement on Tuesday.

He said the injured victims were a woman, an older woman, two men, two children aged four and five, and a two-year-old toddler.

In the incident, all victims were not pinned and firemen gave early treatments to all victims.

According to him, four victims were sent to the hospital with EMRS, while three other victims were transported via ambulance.

The baby’s remains were handed over to the police for further action.
