PUTRAJAYA - The Malaysian Pineapple Industry Board (LPNM) has become the first agricultural agency to introduce an interactive chatbot application, Nanas Intelligence Advisor (NIA), as a two-way communication medium to facilitate users in obtaining accurate information related to the pineapple industry in Malaysia.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Industries Datuk Seri Ahmad Hamzah said the initiative will encourage other agencies under the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industries (MAFI) to take advantage of the internet of things (IoT), in line with the development of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (IR 4.0).

"I had the opportunity to try NIA myself, through this application, I can get various information related to pineapples at my fingertips.

"I am confident that NIA can be used by all layers of society, especially the young generation who are interested in venturing into the agro-food field. Congratulations to LPNM for this initiative,” he told Bernama after launching the application at the Malaysian Agriculture, Horticulture and Agro-tourism Exhibition (MAHA) 2022, here today.

NIA has an Artificial Intelligence (AI) feature that works to stimulate human conversation through text and it can be accessed through the WhatsApp application at +6011-1086 8700.

Meanwhile, LPNM director-general Mohd Khairuzamri M Salleh said NIA is an application that is easily accessible, user-friendly and practical.

He said NIA could handle 500 inquiries regarding pineapple planting, marketing, assistance and LPNM activities at a time.

"We will ensure that the NIA system is always updated with the latest information regarding the pineapple industry so that it can provide accurate information to consumers,” he said.

LPNM Information Management Unit head Mohd Haironizam Suli said NIA was first developed last April in line with efforts to transform the pineapple sector in the era of IR4.0.
