SHAH ALAM - Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Razlan Rafii has pointed fingers at Pas for the collapse of Muafakat Nasional (MN), stating it was the Islamic party who had turned their back on Umno.

In the Melaka state election, he said Umno tried to initiate talks with Pas but they wanted to work with the Perikatan Nasional coalition.

However, Razlan said the room for cooperation with Pas is still open.

“If we can work together, why not? But I would rather let the top management discuss it,” he told Sinar Daily Politically Frank segment.

Razlan also said that the 15th General Election (GE15) should be held immediately as the rakyat are ready for a new mandate.

“We went through health and economic crisis during Covid-19 and to move forward we need a new mandate as the present government may only have a majority of two parliamentary seats,” he said.

He added that BN needs to gain the confidence of Malaysians and the global community as Malaysia practices democracy.

“The government must have a real mandate from the people.

“In 2018, the people did not choose BN as a government, not even Perikatan Nasional (PN) but we need to get the real mandate from the rakyat to restore the struggling economy, the confidence of the rakyat and foreign direct investors,” he said.

He added that foreign direct investment (FDI) started avoiding Malaysia due to political instability after a change of three prime ministers since 2018 elections.

Commenting further, he said Umno has named Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob as the next prime minister after GE15

“That is our promise to the rakyat, InsyaAllah,” he said.
