SHAH ALAM – Food delivery riders plan to strike for 24 hours tomorrow due to the alleged reduction of their wage rate by service providers.

The plan to strike was announced through a post which was uploaded from a Twitter account #PartTimeKL today to show solidarity towards the delivery riders.

The post explained that the food delivery service would not operate for a day tomorrow (Friday).

"Solidarity for fellow frontliner riders @GrabMY & @foodpanda_my who will be on strike for one day tomorrow. Those who cannot avoid, expect order delay/cancelled," the post read.

It was understood that the action was taken because of the increase in the price of food delivered but the service provider company allegedly reduced the delivery wage rate.

"Your food is getting more expensive, our fare is getting lesser," he said.

Meanwhile, a part-time food delivery rider in the Klang Valley area, who refused to be named, said that the movement would cause many customer requests to be affected and might have to be cancelled.

However, he said, the situation would also benefit other food delivery riders who were willing to work on tomorrow as they could generate more income.

"Of course, I know about the boycott, and most full-time food delivery riders would join tomorrow.

"But for those who work tomorrow will be lucky as when there aren't many 'riders', demand is high, so 'riders' get more work than on normal days," he told Sinar Harian.
