KUCHING - The Menyemai Kasih Rakyat (Mekar) programme, organised by the National Registration Department (NRD), proved to be a hit throughout the three-day Aspirasi Keluarga Malaysia (AKM) roadshow in Sarawak.

State NRD director, Abang Noraffian Abang Ibrahim said that the services they offered using their mobile bus were very well received by visitors to the roadshow, held at Dataran Perayaan Petra Jaya here.

"With the Mekar mobile bus service, customers can change new identification cards if their existing cards suffered chip damage without needing to go to our department offices and only need to wait 30 mins after their applications are approved,” he told Bernama here today.

As of 3pm, a total of 63 applications to replace identification cards were processed and the department managed to provide advice to 70 customers. In addition, they completed three first-time applications by 12-year-olds and replaced two birth certificates that were damaged.

The Mekar programme is one of the department's initiatives since 2017 to provide Malaysians with easy access to services, including the registration of births, deaths and identification cards, along with advice, specially catered to residents in the interior and rural areas.

For this year, the Mekar bus service has already serviced residents in Sematan, Lachau, Sri Aman, Song, Lingga, Song and Sibu Jaya, Abang Noraffian said, adding that they would be heading to areas in the north of Sarawak like Limbang and Lawas come September.

"We want all Sarawakians to know that the department offers such mobile facilities to help them obtain our services without needing to go to any of our offices that are located far from their homes,” he added.

In addition to the Mobile Bus service, the Mekar programme contains the MyDaftar programme, the MyTentera programme, the Sabah dan Sarawak special mobile units, Ehsan Mobile, exhibitions and service counters, briefing programmes and integrated partnerships between government agencies. - BERNAMA
