KUALA LUMPUR - The applications by six parties to become Barisan Nasional (BN) component parties are being fine-tuned by the coalition’s secretariat.

BN secretary-general Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir said the matter was among the agenda discussed at the BN supreme council meeting tonight.

"The supreme council would like to express its appreciation and thanks to the parties for their interest and readiness to be together with BN,” he told reporters after attending the BN supreme council meeting at Menara Dato' Onn, World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur here tonight.

The meeting was chaired by BN chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi with BN deputy chairman Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, vice-chairmen Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong, Tan Sri S. Vigneswaran and Datuk Arthur Joseph Kurup in attendance.

MIC representative Datuk Seri M. Saravanan, UMNO representatives Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob and Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid, as well as MCA representative Senator Datuk Mah Hang Soon, were also present.

Meanwhile, Zambry said the supreme council also agreed to establish BN Puteri to coordinate women youth movements of all component parties, with Umno Puteri chief Datuk Zahida Zarik Khan appointed as its chief.

He also said that the supreme council decided to extend Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein’s appointment as BN treasurer-general for another two years.

Hishammuddin, who is also Sembrong MP, was appointed to the post on Oct 23, 2020, replacing Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor. - Bernama
