SHAH ALAM - The best time to hold the 15th General Election (GE15) is after the tabling of the 2023 Budget, analysts say.

This, political analyst Azmi Hassan of Akademi Nusantara said was because there might be good news in the national budget.

“I am sure that the Budget would contain good news not only for civil servants, but also for those in need, especially the B40 group.

“The Bantuan Keluarga Malaysia (BKM) incentives would probably be increased,” he told Sinar Daily.

However, he said if the Budget was not supported by Bersatu, then the only choice Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob has, was to dissolve Parliament immediately because the new government would need to table the Budget.

He said apart from after the tabling of the Budget, the ideal time for the election to be held was after the decision of former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak's appeal in the SRC International Sdn Bhd case which was ongoing at the Federal Court.

Meanwhile, Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) International Studies Centre lecturer Prof Dr Mohd Azizuddin Mohd Sani said the Budget would be the catalyst to boost Ismail Sabri up.

“He (Ismail Sabri) needs to introduce and practice reforms such as the anti-hopping and political funding laws.

“However, from what I heard, the anti-hopping law would only be gazetted the earliest in January 2023,” he said when contacted.

He added that GE15 would not be impossible to be held without the laws being passed and enforced first.
