SHAH ALAM - Dewan Negara president Tan Sri Rais Yatim said the recent threats made against Chief Justice Tun Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat are overboard and unprecedented.

He said never in history that the judiciary was threatened even though they had handled high-profile cases involving the death penalty.

“News that the judge is being threatened is appalling,” he said in a tweet on Friday.

Rais who is also Jelebu Bersatu chief urged for the police to take action against those who were involved in making such threats.

It was reported that there were threats made against Tengku Maimun detected on social media.

Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani said this was a serious issue and police have initiated an investigation although no reports have been lodged yet.

He added that police will not tolerate issues involving public order.

"I have instructed the Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department to initiate an investigation by scrutinising all threats made against the Chief Justice and the investigation also involved the Special Investigation Unit,” he said.
