SHAH ALAM - Fugitive businessman Low Taek Jho or Jho Low was allegedly seen at Disneyland, Shanghai on Christmas Eve 2019.

Citing a Malaysiakini report, the fugitive businessman was spotted based on a facial recording that was said to have resembled his facial features.

Low was in the run over his alleged involvement in the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) fund embezzlement case.

The ‘new clue’ was revealed by journalists Tom Wright and Bradley Hope who had launched a campaign to expose more about Jho Low following former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s incarceration on Aug 23.

According to the journalists’ video clip on YouTube, updated on Wednesday, both claimed to have received a lot of information indicating that Jho Low had been in China in recent years.

"To me, this picture captures a lot of things about Jho Low. It's almost disappointing. (We're) hunting this individual who is said to be the mastermind of money laundering, fraud or whatever.

"You'd think he'd be hiding out like James Bond somewhere but he's actually just hanging around the mall, sitting in Shanghai Disneyland and he always has a lot of phones. He plays them like a piano," Hope said.

Although the man in the photo looked very similar to Jho Low, Malaysiakini could not confirm Wright and Hope's claims.

The two journalists claimed that Jho Low might be detained in China because he risked leaking humiliating information about China's involvement in projects during Najib’s era in Malaysia.

On Dec 4, 2018, Kuala Lumpur Magistrate's Court issued an arrest warrant against Jho Low to assist in the investigation of the 1MDB scandal.

Since then, various efforts have been made by the Malaysian authorities to bring him home.

Jho Low was not only wanted by the authorities to help investigate the 1MDB fund embezzlement case but was also an important witness in the trial involving Najib.

Najib faces four charges involving the embezzlement of RM2.3 billion 1MDB funds and alleged abuse of power to amend the investment company's audit report.
