GTA submits registration application to RoS

PUTRAJAYA - Gerakan Tanah Air (GTA) submits its registration as a political coalition to the Registrar of Society (RoS).

GTA Sponsor Chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said the step would enable the coalition to compete in the 15th General Election (GE15).

"Even though GTA is a movement of a coalition of Malays, in order to qualify this coalition to be able to compete in GE15, we have done the proper process based on the laws," he said through the text of the speech read by GTA Secretary-General Datuk Marzuki Yahya.

Dr Mahathir did not attend the meeting with RoS as he was undergoing the Covid-19 quarantine period ending on Tuesday.

He said GTA would strive to do its best in lifting the voices of the Malays to correct the political distortions that happened to this day and would place the country back on the right path to progress.

"GTA intends to place the best leaders among the Malays, no matter what party becomes the public representative to them and possibly real changes can happen," he stated.

The former prime minister said GTA calls for all Malays and Malaysians that loved this country and wanted the best for the country to band together with the coalition to accomplish change.

"We hope the RoS will approve this coalition immediately as the right to association is guaranteed in the constitution to ensure GTA democratic rights and the public can healthily take place before the next GE15," he said.

Marzuki said GTA featured a red torch logo as a symbol of bringing light to the entire country.

Pejuang President Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir said GTA represented the coalition of four political parties that was comparable to the existing coalitions in the political arena such as Perikatan Nasional (PN), Barisan Nasional (BN) and Pakatan Harapan (PH).

"We hope GTA will be given a fair consideration," he said.

The Jerlun MP said the GTA registration represented a normal process in a democratic country.

"There is no reason for GTA's application to be rejected because we all have experience in establishing a political party.

"It is nothing new, this time we want to combine four parties. It should be easier (registration process)," he said.
