BALING - A total of 130 flood victims from 37 families are still in two temporary evacuation centres (PPS) as of 8am Wednesday.

Baling district civil defence officer, Liutenant (PA) Mohd Faizol Ab Aziz said both PPS that were opened to place victims are Dewan Kampung Padang Empang and Dewan Masjid Al-Huda, Kampung Hangus, Kupang.

He said 96 victims from 31 families were in Dewan Kampung Padang Empang PPS while 34 victims from six families were in Dewan Masjid Al-Huda PPS.

"The victims were ordered to evacuate because the water had entered their homes at a depth of one metre and worried that they would be trapped with the weather conditions in the dark," he said.

The victims began to evacuate around 9pm on Tuesday after the water had risen, fearing it was unsafe if it rained continously.

Victims transferred to two PPS since Tuesday.

He explained that the areas affected were Taman Bayu Sejahtera, Kampung Sungai Batu, Kampung Iboi, Kampung Padang Empang, Kampung Hangus, Kampung Bendang Bechah, Kampung Tok Saba, Masjid Iboi, Lata Chelak, Bok Bak and Tanjung Nering.

This was the third time the area had water risen from the sudden water flow on July 4 which sacrificed three lives.

The incident caused the bridge that connected Kampung Iboi and Masjid Iboi to be swept away by the current.
